Pre-Owned Bag Condition, Size & Care Guide
Every pre-owned item carries a condition rank. The rank is a summary; the written condition notes and the photographs of the item always come first. Ranks follow grading commonly used in Japan's pre-owned market and are reviewed by our staff.
| Rank | Meaning |
|---|---|
| S | Unused or as new. No visible signs of use. May show slight marks from storage or display. |
| SA | Used very little. Very minor signs of use that are hard to see. |
| A | Lightly used. Small signs of use such as light scratches, slight rubbing on corners or small marks, in good overall condition. |
| AB | Used. Noticeable signs of use such as scratches, rubbing, light stains or marks on the lining, still in good usable condition. |
| B | Used with clear wear. Visible scratches, rubbing, stains, fading or odour, described in the condition notes. Fully usable. |
Items in poorer condition are not offered in our shop.
Please note
- Leather, canvas and metal hardware age with use. Small differences in colour and texture compared with a new item are normal.
- Photographs are taken under studio lighting; colours may look slightly different on your screen.
- Serial numbers, date codes, dust bags, boxes and cards are included only if the listing says so.
- If an item is not as described or has a flaw we did not disclose, see Returns.
How to read a pre-owned condition report
Compare the written report with the close-up photographs. A rank summarizes an item and does not replace its individual disclosures. Two bags with the same rank can have wear in different places.
- Corners and edges: check for rubbing, exposed layers, worn piping and edge-coating cracks.
- Handles and straps: look for darkening, surface cracks, loose stitching and any repairs mentioned in the listing.
- Lining and pockets: read the notes for stains, peeling, stickiness or odour. A photograph alone cannot establish whether an odour is present.
- Hardware and closures: compare scratches, discoloration and the condition of zippers, catches and strap attachments.
- Accessories: read the inclusion details for removable straps, locks, keys, cards and dust bags. An accessory that normally accompanied a new bag is not automatically included with a pre-owned one.
These are points to check, not defects asserted for every bag. If a detail that matters to you is missing, contact us with the item reference before ordering.
Two real examples: the same rank, different disclosures
These examples were checked against the individual listings on 28 September 2026. They illustrate why the written notes matter alongside the rank; availability and listing details can change.
- Louis Vuitton Saint Louis, N51993 — rank B: this listing describes signs of use, including scratches and dirt throughout. Open the actual item's 13-photo gallery and condition report to compare the exterior, details and written disclosure. This report applies to that individual item, not every N51993.
- Louis Vuitton Geronimos, N51994 — rank B: this listing specifically discloses storage odour. Open the actual item's photographs and condition report. Odour cannot be judged from photographs, so the written disclosure is essential even if a bag looks suitable on screen.
Compare size and fit before ordering
Start with a bag you already use comfortably. Compare its width, height and depth with the listing, then check the opening and the shape of the base. Exterior dimensions do not guarantee that a particular laptop, folder or phone will fit through the opening or inside a divided compartment.
Centimetres to inches: divide centimetres by 2.54. For example, 25 cm is approximately 9.8 inches and 30 cm is approximately 11.8 inches. These are conversion examples, not measurements of a specific product. Use the dimensions in the individual listing and allow for the approximate nature of measurements of a soft, pre-owned bag.
Handle drop and strap length are different. Drop describes the distance between the top of the handle or strap and the bag. Total strap length measures the strap itself. Check which measurement is supplied and whether the strap is adjustable or detachable. A bag described as a shoulder bag may not have a strap long enough for crossbody use, particularly over a coat.
For tote bags, compare the base and opening as well as handle drop. For shoulder bags and belt or crossbody bags, pay particular attention to strap length, adjustment and fastening. Model size names alone do not establish a personal fit.
Everyday care and storage
Follow any care instructions supplied for the particular item or material. Avoid overfilling a bag, prolonged direct sunlight and storing it while damp. Keep ink, cosmetics and liquids contained so they cannot spill into the lining.
Leather, coated canvas, fabric and suede need different care. Do not apply a generic leather product to every part of a mixed-material bag. Avoid home treatments for peeling coatings, sticky linings, deep stains or odours; seek advice from a specialist before attempting cleaning or repair. New marks, repairs or cleaning after delivery can also affect return eligibility, so review the returns policy first.
Before checkout
Read the listing's photographs, condition notes, measurements and inclusions together. Check the delivery country, shipping charge and handling and transit information, then review the return terms for your destination. Browse all brands or see all current items when you are ready to compare.
